On my moon

Well it was the harvest moon a couple of days ago, so it seems fitting that I had to give up a bit more blood to the Labtech people in labland yesterday. Could have been the gravitational pull from that large glowing orb that kept the needle point spot in my arm bleeding for hours afterward. A small nosebleed and bleeding from my gums are two more gross details of my day yesterday.
Dr Shepherd prescribed vitamin K supplements to help coagulation. Little vials of liquid drawn up into a needle and squirted into the back of my mouth (needle removed thanks). The pharmacist gave us the choice of using the vitamin K usually reserved for dogs who have ingested rat poison or this other mysterious stuff in a glass vial. I've always enjoyed a good mystery.
I'm not bleeding anymore after a couple of doses, but I can't help but wonder what in the world is going on inside me.

I think the health system should have a different scale of evaluating how their patients are doing;
Often I'm asked how's my discomfort level on a scale of one to ten. Maybe they should develop "The Seven Dwarfs" scale of well being,'cause I was feeling like at least 4 of the seven yesterday. Especially Grumpy in Joanne's loving opinion. Sleepy Sneezy Dopey, and I did go to see Doc. Definitely not bashful, as I tend to be a bit of a loose canon when I'm low on hemoglobin.
Maybe there was another dwarf that never made it past the Disney Editing Staff. Horny. But then,If I followed through on his personality trait I'd have a lot of explaining to do when questioned about where those bruises came from.
On a COMPLETELY different note:
Joanne and I had a wonderful experience with a 78 year old "energy worker"named Bett this morning.
It was a meditation/gentle massage experience that left us both feeling quite calm and well. This woman was amazing with all of her healing experience and wisdom. She does regular appointments at the cancer lodge, and we'll definitely see her again.
Instead of coming at me with needles, beeping machines and crisply trimmed moustaches, she had warm hands soothing sounds and sensitivity. What a relief.
The Doctors will let us know on Monday If I can go back to Salt Spring for a while. I'll be hoping for a marrow match on the international registry, which could take a couple of months, apparently.

Thanks to everyone for the contact and generosity. Thanks Chad Thompson for the leather medicine bag.
Feelin' the Love.

G'day Brian,

We have never met, but you may have heard of me.

My name is Jenny. I am from Australia. I visited your Mum in April when I was in Canada at the beginning of a nearly 6-month family history research trip.

I am a 4th cousin once removed to your Mum; fourth cousin twice removed to you. So, distant from you in kinship as well as in geography!

Your Mum is the one who let me know of your leukaemia and your blog site, so I'm keeping up to date on your postings.

After all of that, basically this is to let you and your family know that I am holding you in my thoughts - can't do much else from this distance - and wishing you good spirits for being with the pain and discomfort and lack of energy.

Love your idea about the Seven Dwarves as an adjunct to the pain scale.

May your "inner" journey also continue to progress - you will be surprised at the inner resources you will find.

Jenny Gibson,
Toowoomba, Australia

Dear Brian and Joanne - Joanne told me she needs to be loved too -and we do, we always have.....we just need to say it more often.
What a pair you two are - so sure and strong - it is so obvious that you give each other strength.
Our hearts are full of love for you both - our spirit is with you and the family - Hannah, Coleman, Louis, Sef.
To you all:
Never, never, never give up. Winston Churchill
Courage and strength to you and all of our love

I've been keeping up to date with your blog.

Just got back from taking Grandma for eye tests and out for dinner. She's quite a gal.

Thought of you, talked of you and your family and your journey...we all love you and want you to know that distance means nothing when love is involved, love is being transmitted thru countless miles, over oceans, thru forests, beyond forever when it is as true and powerful as ours is for you and yours.

Our cat Ozzy has become rather envious of the attention the computer is getting and has signalled with his "prrrrrmph" and a claw on my thigh that my preoccupation with the keyboard is annoying him.

Perhaps think closer to home for the bone marrow...Hanna may be a match...just a thought but worth a try.

Always trying to come up with a new angle, sending you loads of love, Aunt Bea

You do have a way with words....you make me smile and make me tear....it's all good. Keep on thinking good thoughts and stay strong....we're all pulling for you here. Sending much love and many hugs to you all.
With Halloween in the near future Kristina has already gotten Peyton's costume - he's going out as a skunk. So darn cute! I remember once in Rainbow Lake you went around town 3X on Halloween night. Before you could go out again you were doing a quick costume change and poked the lens out of you glasses cutting your finger and had to go to the big army nurse at the apartment block for stitches. She was really scarey and I hoped I never had to go to her for anything. Do you also remember the time Dwight and Collin made special brownies and fed them to Mrs. Perschulsky's grade 3 class... the entire class had a stomach ache and the runs...those boys were in so much trouble. A little memory lane.... Anyway Brian, I hope you are having a good day today. You are always in my thoughts. Love to you, Joeanne, Hannah, Coleman, Louis and Seth.

Love Wendy

Hi Brian;
Just wanted to let you know that I have been checking this site every time I have a chance. You definately still have a sense of humor!
I've really been reminiscing alot about the Rainbow Lake days.
Do you remember the time we were walking to Grandma and Grandpa's across the store parking lot and pea shooters were the fad? You were shooting a pea at me from about 75 feet and it went straight up my nose. Man did that hurt but neither of us could stop laughing. It still makes me chuckle when I think about it.
Sending my love and good wishes to you and your family.
Love
Your cousin
Barb

I am so looking forward to seeing you all. Even with all the uncertainty of circumstances being what they are. ...I have this sort of scared and excited little girl heart.... It has been too long.

hey brian,
its been too long, and we're due for a visit....your "little bro" told me about your recent "move" to vancouver...

your blog is awesome (and hilarious.....you're probably right about the other dwarf who didn't make it through the final edit....)

i think about you often, as i frequently open this small box a friend asked you to make for me, long, long ago...it is a beautiful thing....

as YOU are, mr. everest.....and perhaps its okay for me to tell you that i have often described you to others as "a beautiful guy"; just seems fairly accurate!

so give yourself and joanne a large hug for me and i hug you back; i hope to be out your way in the next 2-3 weeks, so try and stash some of that morhpine for me.... we could make a bundle together....

cheers my friend,
tod

Hey Brian,
I wanted to tell you how wide Louis's smile was when you were singing the lovey lou song to him at bedtime last night.
Your kids KNOW that YOU LOVE them.
I think Sef would respond to a letter. He kept the one from Teri lou and has it on the little desk you made him.He was reading a book that I got him from the library last night for 3 hours straight!
I love to read your writing! I think it is great for everyone.
Love Lynn

Hey Brian,

Just got back from that week of sailing up in Desolation Sound. Maybe you could order up a map or find one on the web to check out our route.

Comox, Rebecca Spit Quadra, Brem Bay Toba Inlet, Lund, Blind Bay and Green Bay on Nelson Island, Henry Bay on Denman and back to Comox.

Awesome cruise, awesome crew, amazing weather, excellent cuisine (have you ever had fresh Greenling??).

So great to get an email from Georgina today, laying out what we all need to do on onematch.ca. I will be doing it as soon as I finish this.

I will also be coming to visit again on Tuesday, if you can stand it. Hoping for Doc, Dopey and Happy on the Snow White front.

Really great to read your posts on this site, please keep 'em coming. You always have such a great perspective on things.

Will call before I come.

Tim
